Our Patrol Division has 5 Platoons who work a swing shift. Each Platoon consists of a Sergeant, Corporal, and Patrol Officers. Patrol serves several functions: Reactive Patrol, Proactive Patrol, and Community Caretaking.
Reactive Patrol: Officers are responsible for responding to calls for service that are generated by calling the dispatch center at the Gloucester County Communications building.
Proactive Patrol: Officers address issues and/or violations witnessed first-hand this can be achieved through motor vehicle enforcement or conducting “Added Patrols” which are checking specific areas/businesses to ensure everything is in order.
Community Caretaking: Officers are encouraged to get out on foot and engage with our community to create and develop bonds as well as open lines of communication. The trust the community instills in us to protect and serve is not one we take lightly.
To assist our Patrol Division, a separate unit was created called the Community Response Unit (CRU). This is a unit of officers dedicated to education and enforcement through addressing “Quality of Life” issues during peak times throughout the week. The enforcement component focuses on Local Ordinances including but not limited to noise violations, littering, urinating in public and riotous/ immoral conduct. They also enforce and address all criminal and motor vehicle statutes, assisting the patrol division with high priority calls that require additional officers as well as assisting the Detective Bureau with investigations. The educational component serves to be informative on the level of proper behavior regarding the most common Criminal Statutes, Local Ordinances, Motor Vehicle Statutes and Parking Violations that affect the “Quality of Life” of the residents of Glassboro, visitors of Glassboro and the Rowan University Community.
